Croatian art auctioned at Sotheby´s

An auction of two great Croatian artists' works is to take place at Sotheby's in London on 2 June this year. The works of the artist Vlaho Bukovac (1855- 1922) and the sculptor Ivan Mestrovic (1883 - 1962) will be auctioned at two separate auctions on the same day.

Vlado Franjevic promotes multilingual poetry

Croatian artist and author Vlado Franjevic is participating in the exhibition "From Death to Life". Franjevic, who lives in the Principality of Liechtenstein, is exhibiting four paintings especially painted for the occasion.

Record number of visitors on Museum Night

More than 278,000 people visited Croatian museums on Museum Night last Friday night. It was a record number of visitors for the cultural event started six years ago to promote cultural education. The sixth Museum Night was held at 116 museum and galleries in 41 cities in Croatia.

Croatian sculptor’s work sold in London

A drawing by Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic has been sold for 8,750 GBP at auction in London. 'Pietr' – drawn using pencil and charcoal on paper – was sold as part of an auction of 100 works of 19th and 20th century European sculpture, it was announced yesterday (Thurs).

Croatian artists exhibit at 28th Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana

The 28th Biennial of Graphic Arts is taking place from 4th September to 25th October in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This year in central exhibition, 'The Matrix: An Unstable Reality', participate artists from Croatia: Igor Eškinja, Ivan Fijolić, Iva Kovač, Jelena Kovačević, Ana Lozica, Ines Matijević Cakić and Marko Tadić. Alongside the central exhibition, the Biennial includes Artist's Book Salon, with works of Maja Franković and Darko Šimičić among others.

Chagall exhibition in Split extended to 22 August

The city of Split has decided to extend the Chagall exhibition until 22 August owing to great public interest in it. An exhibition of work by French painter Marc Chagall opened at "Stara Gradska Vijecnica" or city hall on 5 May and was scheduled to close on 9 August.

Gallery Mario Cettina awarded at Artvilnius'09

Gallery Mario Cettina from Umag has been rewarded for the best foreign exhibition at the Artvilnius'09 International Art Fair in Vilnius, Latvia. 100 galleries from 30 countries exhibited the works of 500 artists. The exhibitions, lectures, podium discussions, excursions, performances and various educational events attracted over 17 000 visitors from many countries of the world.

First tactile gallery for the blind opens in Zagreb

The first tactile gallery for the blind and visually impaired has opened at Zagreb’s Modern gallery. The project’s organiser, art historian Natasa Jovicic, said her aim was to present the main works of Croatian modern art to blind people through touch and sound.

The travelling exhibition Contemporary Croatian Drawing has been opened at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest (Hungary). It is a representative and panoramic exhibition of contemporary drawing with an aim to promote sixty artists. Curator of exhibition is academician Tonko Maroević.
