Zagreb’s Advent secrets in a mobile app

place: Croatia
This holidays tourists can check out the most interesting Zagreb’s Advent events with the help of smartphones, discover the unknown historic photographs of Advent in Zagreb and experience the holiday atmosphere through Vine videos.

Together with the agencies Bruketa&Žinić OM and Brlog, Zagreb Tourist Board updated its popular mobile app Zagreb Be There with the new Advent Zagreb path filled with winter and holiday treats. The app was first launched this summer suggesting different theme paths for discovering the city to visitors of Zagreb, with some more or less unusual locations and rewards.

The Advent Zagreb path includes traditional Christmas fairs like the one in the very city centre, the so called “špica”, where tourists can taste delicious gingerbread or pepper cookies, or the lusciously lit Zrinjevac park where they can dance to live music.

For more good music and dancing to warm up the chilly evenings the Advent path suggests Jazz at Cvjetni Trg and the new skating ring in the open, surrounded by the stunning Main train station and the Art pavilion. Then there’s also the Fooling Around By the Funicular for some more tasty food and drinks, or the ArtOmat for creative and original gift-shopping. For unique Zagreb experience the Advent Path includes the event of releasing Kapulica’s lanterns in the sky.

If tourists check-in on most of the locations using #BeThereZagreb hashtag they win a special Zagreb Be There mug ideal for sipping hot winter beverages. Another novelty is the app’s social campaign including special holiday content published daily, just like the Advent calendar.

Old and less known photographs of Zagreb’s Christmas atmosphere were found for this purpose in the archives of the Croatian History Museum and the Ethnography Museum Zagreb. They show how Christmas trees used to be bought or how a Šalata hockey match looked like in the fifties.
