Miljenka Buljević, one of the co-founders of Booksa, will take part in the porgram of International Literary Festival World Voices organized by the American PEN centar from 28 April to 4 May in New York.

10th edition of the festival will host this year many international guests, among them: Salman Rushdie, Martin Amis, A. M. Homes, Judith Butler, Siri Hustvedt, Laszlo Krasznahorkai, Lydie Davis, etc.

Booksa was invited by the American PEN center and as a result of their collaborative selection the following writers were selected fot the event titled Balkan Literature which is set to take place on 3 May in Brooklyn: Aleksandar Hemon, Igor Štiks, Ognjen Spahić and Vladimir Tasić. Miljenka Buljević will moderate the sessions, whilst co-organizers of the event are Art Center Invisible Dog and Trust for Mutual Understanding.  

Booksa was founded by NGO Kulturtreger. Kulturtreger was founded in 2003 with the purpose of promotion and popularization of literature and other forms of contemporary culture. In January 2004, the Association founded club Booksa in Zagreb where it organizes various programs and activities.

Through the concept, organization, programming, collaborations and organization of its club, Kulturtreger promotes some of the basic values of contemporary society – social engagement, openness, collaboration and dialogue, tolerance and respect for differences, non-violence, respect for art, equality as well as personal engagement and responsibility.
Two continuous projects of Kulturtreger include Club Booksa and literary portal which are committed to promoting literature and reading culture through various forms such as education, community programs, public events, collaborative work with writers and audiences, and networking with various institutions, organizations and individuals concerned with literature.

Miljenka Buljević is a cultural operator and translator. She is the chairwoman of Alliance Operation City, an association of 35 organizations active in the field of independent culture and youth. In 2009, the City of Zagreb and the Alliance co-founded Zagreb center for Independent Culture and Youth – POGON, a public institution that provides basic services and manage infrastructure for programs of civil society organizations. Apart from her engagement in the Alliance, she is the president of the Association for promotion of cultures Kulturtreger and the manager of literary club Booksa in Zagreb.
