Bench of Matoš in France

Monument Bench of Matoš, work of the contemporary artist Ivan Kozaric (1972), will be set up in the park Roseraie at Issy les Moulineaux, near Paris on 8 February, 11am. The event will mark 100th anniversary of death of Antun Gustav Matoš.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Croatian Minister of Culture Andrea Zlatar Violić, Croatian Ambassador in France Ivo Goldstein, the Mayor of Issy les Moulineaux Mr André Santini, Deputy Mayor for Culture Alain Lévy and the President of AMCA Association Damir Perinić.

More than 13 years ago AMCA association started an initiative for the monument Bench of Matoš to be in Paris. Unfortunately, the city government has not given its approval to the proposals. After that the president of the AMCA Damir Perinić addressed the same proposal to administration of Issy les Moulineaux city which is located inside the circle wider metropolitan area of Paris.

The city administration proposed location for staging the monument in a quite busy place so it could be in the center of events and everyday life in the town of Issy les Moulineaux.
Antun Gustav Matoš (June 13, 1873 - March 17, 1914) was a Croatian poet, short story writer, journalist, essayist and travelogue writer. He is considered the champion of Croatian modernist literature, opening Croatia to the currents of European modernism, and one of the greatest Croatian poets of all time.
