The Iwano Project is a unique international art project within the domain of visual art. It enables interactive communication between the rich culture and tradition of Japan and our common European cultural heritage. As a result, “new cultural product” is composed of valuable artworks which, by sublimating those two inputs, create new cultural quality that never existed before.

The first exhibition of The Iwano Project was in 2000, when ten artists painted fifty sheets of manually produced Japanese paper. Ever since, The Iwano Project is being realised annually in form of exhibitions and catalogues. By now, during ten realised cycles of the project, close to three hundred academic artists from twenty four countries of four continents created their artworks of large dimensions on the renowned manuually produced Japanese paper “Kumohada Mashi”. Exhibition “RETROX” (Retrospective Exhibition of The Iwano Project) will be presented during October 2013 in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Pula (Croatia) and during 2014 in the Museum of Contemporary Art “Danubiana” in Bratislava (Slovakia).

The project is supported by Provincial Secretariat for Culture and Public Information of AP Vojvodina, City Administration for Culture in Novi Sad and EuNet.
