To Have Done with the Judgement of God, Part One presented in Subotica

place: Subotica, Serbia
organiser: Desire Central Station Festival
Hotel Bulić Theatre performed last week theatre piece To Have Done with the Judgement of God, Part One within the programme of Desire Central Station 2012 in Subotica, Serbia
The concert-performance-installation, To Have Done with the Judgement of God, Part One by author Senka Bulić was created with a set of texts by one of the most interesting authors in theatre, Antonin Artaud. It is material that was so subversive that a radio director decided to remove the show from his programme.

Part of the opus is the poem, Theatre of Cruelty, which draws on the author’s manifests from 1932 and 1933. Artaud’s imagination, with its tragic vision of the world, brings a theatre of blood, the body, the genesis of creation and a desire for deep physical change. He inspired such authors as Allen Ginsberg, Richard Foreman, Sam Shepard and Jim Morrison, who commemorated him through their own homages, and who recognised Artaud’s relevance, which is eerily authentic even today, perhaps more than ever before. Senka Bulić passes the text through her body as a performer, through her voice, and through sound, music and visual installations. In combination with Tomislav Ćurković, visual artist and musician, and Oliver Jularić, costume designer, the concept of the performance is based on the installation of the scene, the voice and the visuals. The deconstruction of the image of Joan of Arc (1865, John Everett Millais) is inserted into Arnaud’s material.

Senka Bulić is a Croatian theatre, television and film actress and theatre director. She has worked with prominent directors in Croatia and abroad, appearing in the films, The Price of Life, Pont Neuf, and How the War Started on My Island, and directing the theatre pieces, The Little Prince, Evasion, Splendid’s, Crime on Goat Island, Christmas Dress, Hanjo, Evita, and Rosamunde. She has been the director of Scena Gorica, and of the drama programme at the Split Summer Festival. Her theatre group, Kazalište Hotel Bulić, has, since its inception, based its programme on a high level of performance energy, sourced from the strengths of performers who take the chance to devote themselves seriously to theatre for the first time, and from the outstanding performance skills of such dramatic artists as Ana Karić, Nina Violić and Ivana Jozić.
