Cellomania will perform on Monday 22 October 2012 in the Union Hall (Maribor) at 7.30 pm.The concert is a part of the Maribor 2012 – European Capital of Culture.

Cellomania, a movement of young cellists who surrender themselves to the pleasures of playing and being together, was established in 1991 by Valter Despalj. The young ensemble, mostly comprised of Despalj's students, who come from Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Latvia and Sweden, has performed with distinguished soloists, including three cello greats of our time, Mischa Maisky, Boris Pergamenschikow, and Giovanni Sollima.

Cellomania reflects a fine state of mind and ear, based on words of Despalj. His cellists have thrilled audiences and critics alike in Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Vienna, Paris, The Hague, Amsterdam, Moscow and elsewhere, garnering praise for the warm timbre of their cello “choir,” virtuoso playing and exciting repertoire.

Among those who have expressed their admiration for Cellomania is Georg Faust, the principal of the renowned Twelve Cellists of the Berlin Philharmon.

A large number of young cellists played of maestro Dešpalj's Cellomania. Among them are laureates of international competitions: Monika Leskovar, Karmen Pečar, Luka Šulić, Jadranka Gašparović, Asja Valčić, Branimir Pustički, Pavle Zajcev, Marie Spaemann, Zita Varga, Bas Jongen, Kajana Pačko, Petra Kušan, Tilen Artač and Lana Beraković.

The concert will partake the representatives of the ministry of Culture of the Republic Croatia as well as the representatives of Croatian cities interested in organizing ECC.
