Renato Baretić as writer-in-residence in Istanbul

Thanks to Kurs NGO from Split and Traduki literary network Croatian writer Renato Baretić will spend the whole August as writer-in-residence in Istanbul, Turkey. Prior to his residence, Branko Čegec and Olja Savičević-Ivančević also participated the same literary program.

Croatian writers in foreign languages for tourists

Croatian publisher, bookseller and distributor VBZ has announced a new project entitled "Croatian writers in foreign languages", aimed at promoting Croatian culture through literature to the foreign tourist market.

Ivica Đikić received tportal literary award

Ivica Đikić, a journalist and writer from Zagreb, won the fifth tportal literary award for his novel ‘Sanjao sam slonove’ (‘I dreamed of elefants’), published by Naklada Ljevak. The award worth kn 100,000 was given to Đikić on Thursday in the ‘Europa’ movie theater in Zagreb.

Darija Žilić in Iran and France

Poetess and translator Darija Žilić visited between 8 and 13 June the University of Tehran - World Study Faculty of Tehran and Arts Faculty of Al Zahra University as a guest of ICRO – Islamic Culture and Relations Organization. Žilić will also represent Croatia during July at the Voix de Mediterranee Festival in Ledeve, France.

Slobodan Šnajder's third book  has been translated and published in French. The Fifth Gospel ( Le ciquieme Evangil) was published by his French publisher L'espace d'un instant.

Croatian writers at Salonika Book Fair

Innovative haiku poem by Jana Žufić

As part of the Haiku Poetry day, internationally marked on 17 April, in the United States have been declared winners of international competitions HaikuNow!, among them also Jana Žufić from Croatia. Žufić won the second place with 'Runners-Up' in the category Innovative Haiku and she was this year the only award nominee from Europe.

City of Pula as a nominee for the World Book Capital City 2014

The City of Pula will propose a nomination for UNESCO World Book Capital City 2014, said the Minister of Culture, Andrea Zlatar Violić after her visit to the city and a meeting with Pula Mayor Boris Miletić and representatives of the Commission for the project 'Pula Book City'. The results are to be expected in June this year.

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden bestowed the Order of the Polar Star, first degree, on Mirko Hrupelj, the author of the Swedish-Croatian Croatian-Swedish dictionary, the Swedish Embassy said in a statement on Monday.

'Freedom' author Jonathan Franzen coming to Zagreb

American Jonathan Franzen, one of today's best known authors, will appear in Zagreb on 22 March. His performance, along with that of Amos Oz, will certainly be one of Zagreb's most important literary performances over the past decade.

Croatian poets presented in Mexico

The Hall of Julio Cortázar at the University of Guadalajara hosted in late March the presentation of then launched the book ´Bajo la ceniza del antiguo fuego´, a selection of contemporary Croatian poetry that was compiled and translated by Zeljka Lovrencic.
