Human Rights Film Festival #9: On Land

time: 05.12.2011. - 10.12.2011.
place: Zagreb, Croatia
organiser: MaMa&Club Mochvara
Human Rights Film Festival (HRFF) is an annual film festival and its 9th installment will be held from December 05-10, 2011 in Kino Europa, Dokukino Croatia (Zagreb) and from December 12-16 in Art-kino Croatia (Rijeka,).

This year’s Festival will focus on the topic of land – as a subject matter of ecology, economy and politics. In previous years we have dealt with themes like urban space and public sphere, while on HRFF#9 we shift the attention to the problematic of land – as soil, territory or Earth (in Croatian “land” and “Earth” are homonymous).

Land as the first and last issue: land being the site of most elementary human action; land as the cause of wars; land in relation to planetary ecological crisis; land as the ultimate remainder for capitalist speculation. Land-grab, global dispossesion of agrarians, ecological devastation – those are just few of the more specific themes HRFF will cover.

Beside the thematic focus, out of the main Festival-programme we can announce some of the most intriguing feature and documentary titles in 2011, while in side-programme there will be interesting discussions and concerts.

The Festival is run by two prominent Croatian independent cultural organizations – Multimedia Institute and Culture Development Association „CDA“ (both organizations being publicly most visible for their respective venues: net.cultural club MaMa and club Mochvara). Partner in Rijeka is Filmaktiv.
