Nikola Basic's Seambiosis for Expo 2012

Croatia will be presented in 2012 at the Expo Exhibition in Yeosu, Korea with the multidisciplinary concept Seambiosis designed by the architect Nikola Basic. The project thematizes mutual symbiosis of the sea, human beings and the bio-system. The work is based on Basic's previous sucessfull work Sea Organs based in Zadar, Croatia.

Expo 2012 will take place inNew Port area in Yeosu, Korea from May 12 – August 12, 2012 in the site area: 1.74 million ㎡.
The site has the geographical edge that comes from being adjacent to the ocean, and thus, is ideal for realizing the Expo theme, “The Living Ocean and Coast.”

The site overlooks Hallyeosudo Marine National Park and Odong Island, and is surrounded by 317 jewel-like islets, having the perfect natural conditions to make the Expo’s theme come alive.

Nikola Bašić (born 1946) is a Croatian architect internationally known for the conception of the Sea organ in Zadar. He was born on the island Murter and eventually attended the gymnasium in Zadar.
