International Archaeology Film Festival in Split

time: 25.11.2010. - 26.11.2010.
place: Split, Croatia
On November 25 and 26, Split will be hosting Croatia's first International Archaeology Film Festival comprising archaeology, cultural heritage, monument protection and anthropology films.

The Festival is organized by the Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments in Split, the Dalmatian capital synonymous for archaeology that will certainly justify its entrusted role of organizer and ensure the continuity of the event in Split.

The program of the first Festival will consist of the best and most awarded recent European documentary films (only for this time without the process of selection), recent European documentaries as well as a retrospective of Croatian archaeology films the oldest of which dates back to as 1926! These "mini retrospectives" entitled "A selection from..." will become a certain peculiarity of the Festival. The screenings will take place in the impressive interior of the Museum which will be an additional attraction for visitors coming to the city whose historic core, together with Diocletian’s Palace, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979.

The event will be a way of enriching the city with one more Festival, yet completely different from the others by its content, and will contribute to the evaluation of archaeological research and cultural heritage. The Festival is also considered an excellent opportunity for making the Museum widely known, particularly in the context of the upcoming new permanent exhibition.
