31 titles selected for the exhibitions Book Art International and Best Book Designs From All Over The World

The National and University Library in Zagreb finally closed the call for proposals Hrvatska lijepa knjiga. The applications were invited for the purpose of making a selection of books by Croatian publishers which will be included in Book Art International, the exhibition which will be held as part of the International Book Fair in Frankfurt from 10 to 14 October 2012, and the exhibition Best Book Designs From All Over The World, scheduled to take place in March next year in Leipzig.

The expert panel of judges, consisting of the academic painter Marcel Bačić, Fellows of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts Josip Bratulić and Tonko Maroević, Mikica Maštrović, Ph.D., academic graphic artist Luka Gusić, Jasna Galjer, Ph.D., and the academic painter and graphic artist Danijel Srdarev, has included these titles in the selection:

The National and University Library in Zagreb wishes to express its gratitude to all the applicants and congratulate the publishers whose books have been included in this selection.

We would like to remind you that Stiftung Buchkunst, the German Book Art Foundation from Frankfurt am Main, has once more entrusted the National and University Library in Zagreb with the organization of the selection of books to be included in the exhibitions Book Art International and Best Book Designs From All Over The World. These exhibitions present the greatest creative accomplishments of art editors and designers as well as those in the field of the art of printing.

All interested Croatian publishers had the opportunity to present their books in terms of design by registering them during the call for proposals Hrvatska lijepa knjiga until 17 July 2012 by the following categories – literature, science, monographs on art and various artists, photo monographs, children’s books and books for youth, school books, bibliophile editions, reprints and catalogues.

The selected titles will be on public display in the lobby of the National and University Library in Zagreb from Tuesday, 18 September 2012 until the end of this month, while after the fairs in Frankfurt and Leipzig, the selected books will be included in the holdings of the German Book and Type Museum, which is part of the German National Library (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek).
