World Literature Festival 2013
At the beginning of September Zagreb will get a new literary event - the World Literature Festival as a gathering place with great names in literature. The festival in its first edition takes place from 5 to 17 September.
BADco. “Chrono-Logics” @ BaNd:expanded
BADco. members Tomislav Medak and Goran Sergej Pristaš will lead a lab in the context of the educational atelier at BaNd:expanded from 27 August till 4 September in Sigulda and Riga, Latvia.
Dimensions Festival 2013
Dimensions Festival runs from midday Thursday 5th September – 6am Monday 9th September. Dimensions Festival was founded in 2012 and it quickly gathered critical acclaim for having the most forward thinking underground electronic music line-up in the region.
'Game of Thrones: Season Four' production began this week in Dubrovnik
The fourth season of the highly popular HBO's television series Game of Thrones started filming this week in Dubrovnik. With the local coordination of Croatian production house Embassy Films Game of Thrones series is among the first beneficiaries of the Croatian Production Incentive Program – a system of cash rebates enabled by the Croatian Audiovisual Center and Croatian Ministry of Culture.
'One Shot', 'The Prettyboy' and 'I Love YU' in Montreal’s programme
The Montreal World Film Festival, whose 37th edition takes place 22 August – 2 September, selected three Croatian films in its programme. The crime drama One Shot directed by Robert Orhel will be screened in the World Competition, and short films The Prettyboy by Saša Ban and I Love YU by Irena Škorić in Focus on World Cinema.
'A Stranger' and ‘Married to the Swiss Franc’ Win Awards at Sarajevo Film Festival
Croatian film writes new success stories: at the recently closed 19th edition of Sarajevo Film Festival, A Stranger by Bobo Jelčić won the Special Jury Award and Heart of Sarajevo for best actor – Bogdan Diklić, while other awards went to documentary films Married to the Swiss Franc by Arsen Oremović, The Verdict by Đuro Gavran, My! My! My Little Room! by Barbara Vekarić, and the documentary project Mia, Myself and an Extra Chromosome by Eva Kraljević.
Karin Šerman, Croatia selector for the Venice Architecture Biennale
Karin Šerman has been appointed via call by the Croatian Ministry of Culture as a selector for 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice which is set to take place in 2014 under the guidance of Rem Koolhaas covering the subject titled 'Fundamentals / Absorbing Modernity: 1914-2014'. Šerman proposed the concept 'Culture of abstraction: Croatian architectural modernism 1914th - 2014th '.
Re.act.feminism in Berlin
Re.act.feminism exhibition is currently on view till 18 August at Akademie der Kunsten in Berlin. Artworks by Sanja Iveković and Sandra Sterle are part of the Re.act.feminism archive.
The Curators‘ Piece on tour

Digital Equipment Contracts Signed for 29 Croatian Cinemas
Zagreb’s Mimara Museum hosted on 8 July the official ceremony of signing the contracts for the project of Independent Cinema Digitisation. Thanks to the Digitisation project, starting from this autumn the citizens of 27 Croatian cities and towns will be able to enjoy technically equipped screening rooms and culturally valuable contents.
Additional Award for Halima's Path
"Halima's Path" has received yet another award, this time at the 19th MedFilm Festival in Rome, Italy, held June 21-30 under the high patronage of Italian President Giorgio Napolitano. The official competition consisted of 9 feature films from Mediterranean countries.
Croatian for beginners
During the next couple of days the Viennese will have an opportunity to learn some Croatian, as the posters Croatian for Beginners will be published all over town. This is actually a project by the newly opened agency Bruketa&Žinić OM Wien.

For the third time, Bruketa & Žinić agency has received an award from one of the most prestigious professional festivals D&AD London. This time the awards went to Adris Annual Report In Good Hands and Stina wine branding and packaging.
Concert held in Vienna on Croatia's EU accession

Zagreb to host 1st LUX Film Days on June 27-30
The first LUX Film Days in Croatia will be held at Zagreb's Cultural Information Centre on June 27-30, featuring six films that won the LUX award, which is given by members of the European Parliament.
Croatian Films in Karlovy Vary
As many as six Croatian films will be presented in the official selection of the 48th edition of Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The competition programmes include Croatian box-office hits and crowd-pleasers (The Priest’s Children, Gangster of Love) and three intriguing minority co-productions (Adria Blues, Dual and Velvet Terrorists). The non-competition selection will show a documentary film about one of the most controversial Croatian films of all times (Occupation, 27th Picture).

Olafur Eliasson and David Adjaye at Lopud Island
Foundation Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary announces the re-opening of the Art Pavilion in Lopud 'Your black horizon'. The Art Pavilion is a joint project by the artist Olafur Eliasson and architect David Adjaye, and it opens its doors to visitors on Saturday, 15th June in 19 hrs.
Poreč to host Valamar Jazz Festival
The Valamar Jazz Festival will take place in the western Croatian town of Poreč from 25 to 29 June. The fourth edition of the festival will showcase, amongst other acts, the Turkish trio Ayşe Tütüncü which will kick-off the event on 25 June.
Five Croatian Films in the Competition Programmes of Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, whose 48th edition takes place 28 June – 6 July, will present five Croatian films in its programme. The Priest’s Children by Vinko Brešan is in Official Selection, Gangster of Love by Nebojša Slijepčević is in documentary competition programme, while the East of the West programme will present three Croatian minority co-productions: Velvet Terrorist by Peter Kerekeš, Adria Blues by Miroslav Mandić and Dual by Nejc Gazvoda.

The second edition of Fantastic Zagreb Film Festival takes place from June 27 to July 5. Zagreb based festival thematizes fantasy and related genres such as science fiction, horror, thriller, mystery, experimental etc.
Oliver Stone receives life achievement award
US film director Oliver Stone received the Wild Dreamer life achievement award of the Subversive Film Festival in Zagreb on Sunday evening. The award was presented by Croatian Culture Minister Andrea Zlatar Violic at a ceremony at Europa Cinema.
Croatian producers Zdenka Gold and Siniša Juričić to be presented in Cannes
Producer Zdenka Gold was selected to participate in the programme of the Producers on the Move initiative taking place during the Cannes International Film Festival (15-26 May 2013). One of the last year’s Cannes award winners, Siniša Juričić (Nukleus film), this year participates in the programme L’Atelier, dedicated to the promotion of film projects, with the Greek-Croatian project Stage Fright.
