Croatian cartoons in Annecy

Three Croatian animated short films have entered in the official program of this year's International Animation Film Festival – Annecy 2010. ‘My Route’ by Veljko Popovic and ‘No Sleep Won't Kill You' by Marko Mestrovic have entered the official competitive programme, whilst film ‘Miramare’ by Michaela Müller will compete in the Student category.

Veljko Popovic was born in 1979 in Split, Croatia. He graduated in 2003 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Department of Painting. In 1998 he started working professionally with computer graphics, and since 2003 has been working with Lemonade Productions on development of computer games. He is a co-founder of Lemonade3d, studio for 2D and 3D graphics and animation. He is an Assistant Professor at the Arts Academy in Split, Croatia.

About 'My way':

Marko Mestrovic was born in Stuttgartu 1972.
1997. graduated painting at Academy of Fine Arts in zagreb, in class of Djuro Seder.
Had few one man and many group exibitions.
Since 2000. exploring animation.

About 'No Sleep Won't Kill You':
What happens when dreams take control over reality?

Michaela Müller received her diploma for fine arts teacher from the HSLU, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, in 1998. Her professional experience includes work as inbetweener, illustrator, painter, and in the props production of the Luzerner Theater. In 2005, she moved to Croatia. Miramare is her graduation film at the Departement of Animation and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.

‘Miramare’ synopsis:
A look at life on the borders of Europe, where tourists try to relax while "illegal" immigrants are struggling to forge themselves a better life. But when a storm hits the shore the distinctions between rich and poor are all but washed away.
