The 13th Liburnia Jazz Festival this year hosts a lot of concerts for music and jazz lovers. The Place and time of the Festival in Opatija, for the first weekend in July (4th-7th).

Everything remains the same as previous years: a unique jazz cruise boat, jazz breakfast and evening concerts at the hotel’s terraces overlooking the sea and, of course, the crown of each day - the world's most famous jazz stars at The Open Air Theatre. Briefly, 13 concerts in 7 stages.

This year the festival has a sneak preview on Thursday, 04.07. on the terrace of the Hotel Kvarner the Hungarian Jazz group Djabe will lead us to the festival events.

Djabe is best known jazz / world fusion band of Central Europe, and is characterized by virtuoso blend of Hungarian folk music and jazz.

On Friday, 5.07., Festival opens "A King of Cuban rhythms" Ignacio Berroa Quartet. One of the world's most respected drummers, who is best known for his longtime work with Dizzy Gillespie who said of him that "... he is the only drummer in the world that knows Afro-Cuban music as well as jazz ...".

After he was put on the list of drum legends by the Blue Note and “drum bible” Modern Drummer, and after the Montreal Drum Festival awarded him for a cultural life-achievments, we have finally the opportunity to hear him at the Liburnia Jazz.

Saturday, the 6th July is a day at the Festival that will leave many with their mouths, eyes and ears wide open. For the first time in Opatija performs Maria Joao, a Portuguese singer who is considered as one of the best female jazz singers. The woman who sings everything that is acctually possible to sing at all, an artist which entertains, seduces, dancing and running around the stage. Maria Joao has a long and serious jazz biography, but her vocal flexibility, simultaneous drama, simplicity and naturalness are what captivates the audience and why they worship her.

The OFF program will feature many already famous bands, but it will be discovered some brand new as well: all women jazz band Chocolate Disaster and emerging Portuguese-Croatian jazz duo Amália Baraona & Dinko Stipaničev.
