Vlasta Delimar and Milan Bozic in London

time: 12.10.2011. - 12.10.2011.
place: London, UK
organiser: Anne Bean & the Live Art Development Agency
Anne Bean and the Live Art Development Agency are organizing a special art event that includes performance artist Vlasta Delimar and Milan Bozic. They will present performance art 'Absolute Artist (Memories and Feelings) Antonio Gotovac Lauer' on Wednesday 12 October at 7pm at Rochelle School, London.

“Since we could not take the responsibility to care for his artistic legacy offered to us by Antonio Gotovac Lauer himself while alive, we decided after his death on a larger project entitled Absolute Artist (Memories and Feelings) Antonio Gotovac Lauer, intended to have his life and work validated through the prism of another artist.

The project's aim was to carry out a number of actions and performances in Croatian towns where Gotovac worked (Zagreb, Rijeka, Koprivnica, Split and Dubrovnik).

After the performing actions in Croatia, we continued in Venice, London, Paris. These are the cities where we together with him planned to continue our joint actions but we did not succeed, and are the cities where Gotovac worked before.

This complex project is a commemoration on the activity of one contemporary who had a specially important influence on art – performance scene in Croatia.”

This event is organized by Anne Bean as one of the continuing legacies of her Legacy Award. Legacy is a collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency and Tate Research, financially assisted by Arts Council England and the Live Art Development Agency. Legacy acknowledges the outstanding bodies of work of artists who have influenced the development of the Live Art field by supporting them to think about the legacies of performance in art historical contexts and examine the processes and challenges of archiving live work. Legacy recipients are Anne Bean and Tim Etchells.

Antonio G. Lauer a.k.a Tomislav Gotovac (1937-2010) is representing Croatia at the 54th Biennale di Venezia in the exhibition entitled One Needs to Live Self-Confidently... Tomislav Gotovac was an avant-garde film director and performer, whose complex and multi-layered projects, combining a range of different art practices, are considered pioneering and anticipatory in the areas of structuralist and experimental film, conceptual art, body art, and performance. The presentation of his work in Venice includes the key structural and experimental films, and series of photographs from the beginning of the 1960s through to the end of the 1970s and states: “This selection of Gotovac's work does not aim to
'discover' or canonise him internationally, but to show how relevant his work is today and to contextualise it beyond the usual representational clichés of the East European dissident artist. “
