Julian Rachlin & Friends

time: 27.08.2011. - 08.09.2011.
place: Dubrovnik, Croatia
This year, the Festival is taking place from August 27th to September 8th. On the opening night, the legendary conductor Zubin Metha will be leading the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, along with solo performances by the founder of the Festival, Julian Rachlin, violin, Croatian soprano Marija Kuhar Šoša, and the Serbian Ipča Ramanović, baritone.
The concert will be taking place in Držić square which is a new venue for the festival. In this same place, the Kremerata Baltica, the worldwide famous chamber orchestra from the Baltic countries, concert will be held on August 29th, with Julian Rachlin himself conducting.

Some minor alterations were made in the festival program, so instead of ‘The Music Critic’ with John Malkovic the audience will be delighted by the famous duo of the violinist Aleksey Igudesman and pianist Hyung-ki Joo. These two musicians, accompanied by many other performers, will put on a fun and memorable show full of humor and surprises.
The show is called ‘Pirates of the Adriatic’ and features some experimental approaches to classical music as the music will be performed on some unusual ‘instruments’ such as mobile phones! The festival features numerous superb artists during its 13 day duration, including: Itamar Golan, Mischa Maisky, Janine Jansen, Pavel Vernikov, Martin Grubinger and many more.

On September 4th , the second gala charity football game for UNICEF will take place. This time, the venue is the sports hall in Gospino polje. Three matches will be played between the team of Festival musicians, with Julian Rachlin as captain of the team, the team of representatives from the media and an all star team which will include players from the world’s greatest football club - FC Barcelona.

Speaking of football, on July 23d Julian Rachlin opened the match commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Hajduk-Split club between FC Barcelona and Hajduk Split by performing the anthems of both teams. This was met with a great acceptance by the million viewers and more than positive coverage by the press and media.
