More than 50,000 visitors at Zagreb Museum exhibit of Rembrandt’s graphics

place: Zagreb, Croatia

More than 50,000 visitors saw the exhibition of Rembrandt's graphics held at the Zagreb Museum for Arts and Crafts from 9 December 2008 – 15 February 2009.

Around 200 etchings by famous Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669), 103 of which came from the Graz Alte Galerie LMJ collection, were exhibited.
Zagreb Museum for Arts and Crafts head Miroslav Gasparovic said the number of visitors to the exhibition showed Croats had recognized the value of Rembrandt’s art.
Gasparovic said the exhibition had met his expectations, meaning it had stimulated popular interest in graphics and etchings, which were very important in the history of Croatian art.
Enlarged graphics were placed by the smaller originals during the exhibition so visitors could seen the mastery of Rembrandt's graphics.

Because of their sensitivity to light, the graphics are rarely exhibited. They will be returned to the Graz Alte Galerie LMJ.
