12th Book Fair in Istria / Sa(n)jam knjige u Istri

The fair is being held under the motto Poetry Is a Matter of the Heart. The Fair is to also have the annual Kiklop book award handed out prior to its closing on Dec. 9.

The largest book fair in Croatia and great literary manifestation in Istria; book festival in the secessionist building of the Croatian soldiers centre in Pula at which publishers, authors, translators and readers meet together. ‘Sa(n)jam knjige u Istri’ is a word play and it means: I dream of books in Istria.

The book fair has been created out of a dream of several people at play, gathered around a bookshop in Pula called Castropola. From a small, unpretentious book exhibition first held in 1995 as a result of long time playing and dreaming of those people, the event turned into the biggest book fair in the whole of Croatia.

Along with discounted book sales, as part of the Fair are conducted many rich programme of additional events: promotions of books and publishers, meetings of the public with authors (‘Breakfast with the author’ in the Café Mozart, ‘Sunset with a book’), round tables, exhibitions, concerts, theatre and video performances and film series.
