36th International Puppet Theatre Festival (PIF)

From: 29.8.2003. To: 5.9.2003.

Organiser: International Centre for Cultural Services

Location: Zagreb, &TD Theatre, "Komedija" Town Theatre, "Kerempuh" Satirical Theatre

During the PIF there are numerous puppet show performances in Zagreb theatre halls as well as on the streets and town squares -from traditional ones to fully modern experimental shows - for children and adults. The programmes are adjudicated by two juries; the children's jury and the international expert jury that award the best overall play (the main prize of the PIF has been named after the great man of the Croatian puppet theatre, Milan Cecuk) and individual achievements. Awards are granted to meritorious individuals and institutions. The PIF is included in the European Festival Network through UNIMA.
For years, the PIF has presented puppetry of individual countries with a strong puppetry tradition and school. Bulgarian, French, Israeli, Czech and Slovak puppetry have been presented, and this year Hungarian puppetry will be presented: an exhibition of puppets of Hungarian designers, guest performance of the Budapest Puppet Theatre, guest performance of students of the 3rd year of the first generation of the puppet school and a discussion on the subject of Hungarian puppetry will be organised.
