The 51st International Children's Festival

The 51st edition of the International Children's Festival begins on 18th June 2011 with the opening ceremony that will take place on the Summer Stage at 9 p.m, and it lasts until 2nd July.
 
The opening performance of the festival is 'The Ugly Duckling' performed by Zagreb Youth Theatre, directed by Robert Waltl and dramatised by Ivica Buljan. The play, based on the famous and one of the most performed fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen, was written by Ivor Martinić, lyrics by Olja Savičević Ivančević, music by Mitja Smrekar, starring Nina Violić, Ksenija Marinković, Lucija Šerbedžija, Kristijan Ugrina...
 
The opening ceremony of the International Children's Festival will be attended by its patron and great friend, the President of the Republic of Croatia Prof Dr Ivo Josipović as well as by the Minister of Culture Mr Jasen Mesić and the Head of Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Croatia Mr Paul Vandoren.
 
Again this year around sixty thousand visitors are expected to attend about two hundred programmes with more than 1200 participants from FYR Macedonia, Lithuania, Latvia, the UK, Slovenia, Germany, Norway, Austria, China, Serbia ...
 
Along with drama and puppet shows, children and adults of Šibenik as well as their guests will be offered a lot of music and dance: a Chinese children's opera, Latvian ballet 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', then a performance about Hillary the Witch representing an amusing and interesting way for children to approach opera, '1001 Nights' performed by Dance Group Sjene and finally, as part of the programme in the squares and streets, we have to mention street performers, who are always ready to dance and sing. On the second day of the festival the audience in Šibenik will be able to see a film preview: Croatian feature film for children 'Koko and the Ghosts' directed by Danijel Kušan. Traditionally, the festival will also host the Book Fair with new titles and prize-winning games, there will be numerous workshop programmes, a rich programme of traditional culture and the Night programme with performances and events starting at 10.30 p.m. in Četiri bunara Square.
