Dubrovnik to host 10th Julian Rachlin & Friends festival

time: 1.9.2010. - 10.9.2010.
place: Dubrovnik
Between September 1-12, the southern Adriatic resort of Dubrovnik will host the Tenth Chamber Music Festival Julian Rachlin and Friends.

The story of the Festival Julian Rachlin & Friends began in 2000 during maestro Julian Rachlin's performance at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. It was love at first sight that he felt for Dubrovnik and an idea was born about a music festival that would take place within the historical Town core, the most beautiful musical stage. A year later, in 2001, the first Festival of chamber music 'Julian Rachlin & Friends' was held. Maestro Rachlin invited his friends, who were as enchanted with Dubrovnik as he was. Today, nine years later, some of the most famous world musicians join maestro Rachlin on a regular basis, such as cellist Mischa Maisky, pianist Itamar Golan, violinist Janine Jansen, hornist Radovan Vlatković as well as many others who book the beginning of September each year for their visit to Dubrovnik and participation in the Festival. Both the unique nature of this music event and the town in which it is held are best described by maestro Rachlin himself: 'I have never given any concerts such as those in the Rector's Palace and the Festival in Dubrovnik represents an extraordinary fusion of art, friendship and synergy rarely seen anywhere.'

Since its conception the Festival has been receiving the support of the City of Dubrovnik, local population, artists, music lovers, state and other institutions alike. As years went by the importance of the Festival has become recognized by a number of partners, sponsors, friends and patrons both from Croatia and abroad. Furthermore, we must underline the unconditional love of maestro Rachlin towards Dubrovnik and his selfless energy devoted to the Festival. Many artists visiting Dubrovnik follow the same philosophy, while organizers and their hosts - the citizens of Dubrovnik - always give their best in making their stay in the Town as enjoyable as possible.

In the last eight years the Festival Julian Rachlin & Friends has become an ultimate music and culture destination on the map of Europe.

In 2007 the Agency Dubrovnik PartneR took over the organization of the Festival. Furthermore, it initiated founding of the cultural institution 'Festival Julian Rachlin and Friends'. The director of the Instituion is Ms Romana Čačija and the Steering Committee consists of Mr Dmitri Kuschnir, maestro Rachlin's closest associate, and Mr Goran Štrok, president of ALH group and one of the oldest supporters of the Festival. The objective of the newly-founded Institution is to organize the Festival as well as various activities around the year. The latest idea of maestro Rachlin and the Institution is to organize masterclass concerts during year.
