One of the world’s most prominent chamber orchestras, Zagreb Soloists will perform with Marc Coppey on 10 November in Paris at the Theatre de la Ville.

Founded in 1953, as an ensemble of Radio Zagreb, under the artistic leadership of the renowned cellist and conductor Antonio Janigro.

In addition to their prominent tenure with Maestro Janigro, Zagreb Soloists have worked closely with artistic directors Tonko Ninić,Dragutin Hrdjok, Anđelko Krpan and Borivoj Martinić-Jerčić, usually without a conductor. Since autumn of 2011 they are playing under the artistic leadership of Marc Coppey, one of the world’s leading cellists, with Borivoj Martinić-Jerčić as their concertmaster. The Ensemble’s virtuosity and remarkable discipline create an enthusiasm and love for ensemble playing on the highest level.

The Ensemble has performed over 3500 concerts worldwide, receiving public recognition and critical acclaim at the world’s most prestigious venues – Vienna Musikverein, Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebow, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Sydney Opera House, and Teatro Real Madrid to name a few. The ensemble regularly appears at internationally recognized music festivals – Salzburg, Prague, Edinburgh, Berlin, etc. Zagreb Soloists have also collaborated with many great artists, including Henryk Szeryng, Alfred Brendel, Pierre Fournier, James Galway, Katia Ricciarelli, Christian Ferras, Ivo Pogorelić and many others.

The ensemble’s extensive repertoire includes baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary works, with special attention given to the works of Croatian composers. Zagreb Soloists’ vast discography can be heard on over 70 albums for the EMI, RCA, Vanguard, ASV, Eurodisc, Melodia, Hispa-vox, Pickwick, Croatia and EDI Records labels. Their latest CD will be released in December on Naxos label, a recording of works of Ernesto Cordero, recorded with the world renowned guitar player, Pepe Romero.

The Ensemble is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including First Prize in Mar de Plata, Pablo Casals Medal, Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Medal for best performance of contemporary music, and the Vladimir Nazor and Milka Trnina awards, as well as Orlando Awards for best performance of a Croatian work and for a special contribution to the program of Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Zagreb Soloists have twice been honored with the City of Zagreb Award and have received special recognition from UNESCO. In addition to receiving a silver CD from Croatia Records, the ensemble has been awarded the Order of National Merit and the Silver Plaque of Jeunesses Musicales.
